1. The WhoCraft forums are looking awfully empty... Never fear, your friendly neighbourhood survival server is still around -- but our forums did suffer a massive database loss. Know that you've been here before but you can't log in? Check out our Q&A.
  2. Stay awhile and stroll around the community. Hop in our DIscord channel if you want some instant chat with members. Looking to apply to join our server? Be sure to read the thread "How to Apply" and get ready to open your chests and your soul, and make some new life-long gaming friends.

WhoCraft is recruiting! But be warned, we're picky...
    Updated 02/04/2017

WhoCraft makes no promise of a quick application process nor instant white-list satisfaction. We have a fantastic group and a comfy community, and we're not looking to rock the boat by mass white-listing. If you frequently server hop, if you get bored with any build bigger than a one bedroom house or any amount of survival play, or if you don't have the patience for a World that can be -- on occasion -- as empty as single-player...then this is probably not the place for you.

BUT...if you enjoy the sanctity, stability, and freedom of a survival single player world, and you've been wishing there was a way you could have all that AND the social experience of some good nights with good friends in multiplayer; if you think that life doesn't get much better than coming home after a long day at work and kicking back with the beautiful simplicity of Vanilla Minecraft; or if you wish there were people in your life with whom could talk 'shop' (redstone, design techniques, ultimate bases, mega farms, cities, and infrastructure, etc) and who didn't require an explanation for why you're 30-something and you play a blocky retro-looking child's game...Well, if there was a server that could offer that, the application process might just be worth it, right?

I don't want to sugar-coat it -- WhoCraft can be quiet. But I'm also not exaggerating when I say that we have one of the best mature communities around. We have members who come back weeks or months (or even years) later, and they're welcomed back as if they were never gone. Above all, our members have faith in the fact that WhoCraft will be here no matter what else happens in their lives.

We're looking to add to our core -- the members who are on nightly, and the ones who keep coming back. We want people who want one server to call home. Our recruiting goal is to constantly trickle in new people -- a few at a time but GOOD people who WANT to be here and be a part of something great and play this fantastic game to its fullest limits. We'll never boast 100+ players on at once (in fact I guarantee it because we don't want that!)...we'll always have those quiet nights but we'd like to maintain 5-10 on good nights, or a few more on a busy night, and constant recruiting is key to that. But unlike other servers, we don't want a never-ending flood of strangers who hardly stay a day, and so we won't white-list everyone -- we have to be picky.

So what are we looking for?

    • PATIENCE...people who enjoy being in the same world for a good long while and building it up into something epic; people who don't mind playing alone on the quiet nights because the busy nights are so worth the wait. We want the people who take on big projects, settle into the community for the long term, and take all the good with the bad because they are comfortable and content knowing that our server has run for 4+ years and isn't going anywhere.
    • CREATIVITY...people who know how to generate their own ideas and are able to jump start their own imagination, people who have so many ideas they hand them out like cookies at a bake sale, because there are so many things to be built and so little time! We're not here to poke and prod you until you kind-of-sort-of get a spark and some motivation, and we're not here because you need someone to run events for you and entertain you.
    • SOCIABILITY...people who are just peachy playing alone but who definitely aren't shy about chatting with other players, offering help or advice, or collaborating on big projects when the opportunity happens. We use Discord for announcements, community chat and voice chat -- and joining the WhoCraft Discord is a requirement! We're looking for people who want to be part of a community -- people who run as far off the map as they can and never type or speak to other members are simply NOT contributing to a community.
    • DEDICATION...people who are passionate about two things to a fault: Vanilla Minecraft and making this one of the best communities around. 'Community' is a player-driven quality. It's our wonderful members that make this more than just a game and a server -- they make WhoCraft a second home.
    • POSITIVE and MATURE MINDSET -- Yes, we set the bar at 18 years old because we have to set it somewhere -- it helps us weed out a lot of bad applications with one stroke (and therefore saves us time -- we have jobs and stuff you know!). But it's not about age at all, it really comes down to "state of mind" and life experience. We are looking for people who are going to fit in; people who are respectful of others and contribute to the team in positive ways; able to hold meaningful conversations about interests, careers and family; and ultimately connect on an intellectual and psychological level with our current crowd of mid-to-late-20's, 30's, and 40's. The 18+ rule helps ensure that we aren't flooded with applications that likely don't meet our expectations. Our application and interview process help us filter candidates even further.

Are you still reading? If you're still reading and you're not excitedly hopeful that this is the Minecraft home you've been looking for...our rather extensive application process is definitely not worth your time or ours -- and that's okay. But if you've been reading all of this and mouthing "oh-my-god-yes!" then read just a little bit more and follow the instructions to submit your application.

We've told you as much as we can about ourselves...now we want to hear about you. There are a few parts to this application:

    1. Join the WhoCraft Discord, offer a big "Hello!" (we're super friendly!) and let us know you're planning on applying -- so we can all run over to the forums and wait impatiently excitedly for your application!
    2. Sign up on the forums!
    3. COPY all the questions in the next post and PASTE them into a new post with the title "IGN: Yourgamenamehere" (it's okay if your IGN is different from your forum username)
    4. If we like what we see in your application, one of the admins will reply to your post. We might arrange to have you join voice chat on Discord with a few members so that we can ask any other questions we might have -- and you can ask us anything you want to about the server and what we offer.
    • Answer all the questions as completely, thoroughly and as honestly as you can. There are no wrong answers, we just want to learn about you -- but fair warning: writing too little is much worse than writing too much.
    • Your application and interaction in Discord is our first impression of you -- make it count!
    • Try not to leave any questions blank, but if you honestly don't have an answer, feel free to say so -- or talk about something else you love instead!
Discord allows us to send out quick announcements and makes it super easy to get ahold of an admin in an emergency. As a reminder, joining our Discord channel is a minimum requirement before whitelist, and while we recommend downloading the desktop app and/or the phone app to get the most out of it, you can choose to talk a lot or a little.

After all that the admins, with input from our members, will decide as a group if you seem like a good addition -- and we'll let you know if you're white-listed or not.

    Thanks for reading!

    (1) When did you start playing Minecraft and why? Tell us about the person that got you hooked or the gameplay element that inspired you. What brings you back each night?

    (2) Tell us about your favorite block or item, the one you can't live without, and why?

    (3) Tell us about your Minecraft style -- What do you like to do in Minecraft? Are you a farmer, a builder, a redstoner, or maybe a jack-of-all-trades? What's your go-to when you first start on a map? Is there anything funny or unique you add to a map that you think most other people don't do?

    (4) Tell us all about the coolest thing you've ever done or built in Minecraft by yourself. Then tell us about the coolest thing you ever did with a group.

    (5) When you're not playing MC, what other things do you like to do (gaming, television/YouTube, other creative indoor or outdoor hobbies...)? Are there other video games you like to play?

    (6) Tell us a bit about your home life - no need to be too detailed and feel free to let us know if you'd rather keep this private. Do you work or go to school (or both)? Do you have a roommate, spouse, kids, parents (or others) that you live with? What kind of real life responsibilities or obligations do you have?

    (7) Have you played on other MC servers before?

(7a) If yes, what was the longest you were ever on a server? How often did you log in? What did you like about it? What did you dislike? Why did you leave?

(7b) If no, what has kept you from trying out other servers before?

    (8) Why would you like to be on our server? What do you think we have to offer that fits your playstyle?

    (9) What does 'community' mean to you? What do you think you can contribute to our community?

    (10) How did you find us and what did you see that made you want to apply?

    (11) Have you ever used Discord before (or something similar, like Skype, Ventrilo, or Teamspeak)? Do you have any issues with joining the WhoCraft Discord? What do you think of being in a chat channel that keeps us all connected daily?

    (12) Is there anything else you want us to know about you?
